Meet the Press on the Prez

What a week of bizarre statements and threats from our new president.  Here are four of them discussed this morning on Meet the Press.

#1 "When you hear about the tough phone calls I'm having, don't worry about it," said dt at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Translation:
When I threaten to invade Mexico,
When I hang up on the Prime Minister of Australia,
don't try to stop me.  Trust me.

#2 "As of today, we are officially putting Iran on notice," said dt's national security advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Translation:
Some kind of threat, an escalation of the tension between the US and Iran.

#3 "I do respect him," said dt regarding Putin during an interview with Bill O'Reilly of Fox News aired on Sunday, Feb. 5.  But "Putin is a killer," countered O'Reilly. dt's response: "There are a lot of killers.  We have a lot of killers.  Well, you think our country is so innocent?"

Translation:
Putin has done nothing worse than the US has done.
Let's overlook his KGB record of state-sponsored killing of thousands, as well as his orders behind the murder of reporters, dissidents, and political rivals, including a poisoning this past week of a Putin critic.

#4 "The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned," said dt in a tweet at 5:12 am on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Translation:
Anyone in the judicial branch of government who disagrees with my travel ban does not have valid authority.

Analysis by New York Times reporter Thomas Fuller regarding Judge James Robart:

The federal judge who blocked President Trump’s immigration order is described by former colleagues and acquaintances as a “mainstream” Republican who went from a career as a highly respected corporate lawyer in Seattle to an appointment by President George W. Bush to the federal bench.
