Deliver us from evil...

The prayer Jesus taught us has taken on different resonance since the inauguration of dt as president.

Our Maker who art in heaven,
may your name be honored...

Your Presence fills the heavens and the earth.
May all creation honor Your name.
May I honor You... may the words and actions of our president and our other leaders honor You.

May your Kingdom come...

We are so weary of kings and rulers and lords who oppress those they rule over.
May the time when You reign come soon.
Jesus said, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near" (Matthew 4:17).
May Your reign be completed on this earth.

May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

May we all do Your will... all humans on this Earth.
We long for Your will to prevail on Earth, as the planets and galaxies obey Your will.

Give us this day our daily bread...

May all of us have the bare minimum: food to eat.  May we all work toward this end and remember those who are hungry.  May our leaders choose paths that help the hungry.

And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

We repent of our wrong-doing and self-centered living.  Forgive us in Your mercy and show us each the errors into which we fall.
May our leaders also repent and receive Your forgiveness.
We forgive those who sin against us and do not repent.

Lead us not into temptation...

When we are tempted to use violence or deceit, lead us toward conflict resolution and truth.
When we are tempted to despair, sustain us with Your Presence and Your example in Jesus.
Give us hope.

But deliver us from evil.

O Creator and Redeemer, do not let evil ensnare us or harm us.
Protect our president and other leaders from listening to the voice of Satan.
When Satan controls them, deliver us from their power.

For Yours is the kingdom, and the power and the glory.

We will keep Your Face before us at all times.
You rule the universe.  All power is Yours.
All honor and glory are Yours.
When we feel surrounded by evil, remind us that You are greater.
You are present.
"Nothing can separate us from Your Love in Jesus, the Messiah, the One we follow and obey."
(Romans 8:39).

Amen.

So be it.

See this prayer in Matthew 6, verses 9-13.
