Rectal exams for men in Texas

I love Rep. Jessica Farrar's new bill in the Texas legislature.

Portions of it:

  • require men to undergo a rectal exam, MRI, and 24-hour wait before an elective vasectomy, a prescription for Viagra, or a colonoscopy.

  • "ensure a doctor's right to invoke their personal, moralistic or religious beliefs in refusing to perform an elective vasectomy or prescribe Viagra."

  • a booklet called "A Man's Right To Know" distributed to each man who seeks a vasectomy, Viagra, or a colonoscopy--complete with artistic illustrations of the procedures.

  • a $100 fine for men who do any "masturbatory emisioons" that aren't deposited directly into a woman or collected and stored "for the purposes of conception for a current or future wife."

She introduced the bill last week "to shine a light on what is happening in Texas" to women who seek an abortion.

"I mean, we would never do this to men," she points out.

Thank you to Alexandra Zavis for her report in today's Los Angeles Times, "Pro-choice satire: Texas bill orders rectal exams for men."
