Unforgettable Children
After our talk with the activists at Saajhi Duniya, we had an hour of free time across the street to get things at a grocery store, ATM, or other shops.
As we waited near our cars, children approached us begging, putting their hands to their mouths to show that they wanted food to eat.
We steadfastly avoided giving them money, following Nita's advice, but I decided I wanted to take photographs of them and the woman sitting nearby who appeared to be their mother. To pay them for this favor, I gave them 20 rupees each and their mother 100 rupees ($2).
Their mother (or whoever the woman was with them) was particularly saddening. It was so hard to remain distant and then to drive off.
